This season, we plan to hold evaluations at MOST levels to ensure athletes are placed on a team that will benefit their athletic development. This is dependent on registrations and gym availability. Our goal as an association is to give all local and regional athletes to Morinville, regardless of skill, a chance to play. We are working to grow our competitive and developmental programming.
Athletes from Sturgeon County and surrounding communities and county's (including Westlock, Barrhead, Thorhild, Clyde, etc.) are welcome to the MYBA. We are a growing association and welcome any athlete that is wanting to represent and compete with Morinville Youth Basketball.
Registration is not confirmed until full fees are received. Athletes must pay a $17 ABA Membership fee during registration.

Evaluations:
As MYBA grows, our goal is to start offering more programming for competitive and developmental athletes. To start growing our more competitive streams, we will begin to evaluate athletes at the beginning of our season to ensure they are placed on a team that will benefit their athletic development. This would give players with limited experience a chance to learn at their experience level, and it would also give higher calibre athletes a chance to learn at their experience and skill level. Our league requires us to place teams in divisions ranging from "A" through "E" so that teams play against other teams of a similar skill level. By hosting evaluations for registered athletes, we can place our teams in the best suited division.
Evaluations are dependant on registrations and gym availability.
Practices:
Practices may take place any day of the week. Weekday practices would be between the hours of 5pm-9:30pm. Athletes on U15 and U18 teams may have 2 practices per week, dependant on gym availability. Practices are 90 minutes long for most teams, with the exception of U7 which is 60 minutes.
At times, school gyms are under "Blackout" days, which means the court is not able to be used. In this instance, teams may be combined with another team for practice or rescheduled if we can get the gym space.Under rare circumstances, teams may have their practice cancelled for that week.
While practice day/time requests can be made, we will not guarantee they will be honoured as our priority is with our coaches schedules.
Games:
MYBA has been working to try and get local league games. We cannot guarantee this will happen as we do not schedule the games for the league we participate in. Any exhibition games we set for divisions may occur in town, including our annual Boys vs Girls games and Alumni games. For U11 through U18, games can occur in the greater Edmonton area, including but not limited to Leduc, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Beaumont, and St. Albert.
Coach/Athlete Requests:
While we do our best with requests, we will not guarantee they will be honoured. MYBA does everything for the best interest of the teams and the athletes involved and we are experienced in knowing how to set up teams to benefit the players. Our association is for the players and their development and we expect to have the support of all parents/guardians with this. We ask that parents/guardians encourage their athletes to participate on teams with athletes they may or may not know, and learn from coaches they may or may not have worked with before.
Only under extreme circumstances with coach/athlete requests be considered.
U9 Program:
Our U9 athletes will be participating in a 3X3 league. As this is a new program to us, the set up for U9 has not yet been determined. Our U9s will participate in a season ending tournament at Youth Provincials. Athletes in this division will participate on gender specific teams where numbers allow.
U18 Program:
Our U18 program is split into two separate seasons. Fall runs September to November and Winter runs December to March. Athletes participating on a high school team are not permitted to play on a non-school team of the same sport. In previous years, Junior Varsity athletes could participate in both. We will confirm with the Alberta Schools Athletics Association and email all High School athletes after the U18 season to determine interest.
