PLEASE NOTE:

We will not know practice times prior to athletes registering as we will not receive our times from the town till closer to the beginning of the season.

IF we receive times earlier, we will create tentative dates for teams.

We do our best to ensure our younger athletes practice at earlier times slots, however this is not always the case. Our gym times range from 6pm-9pm.

Division Information

U7 and U9 (Athletes born 2012-2014*)

The U7 and U9 program is designed with an emphasis on developing basic skills in a non-competitive environment. A smaller, lighter ball is used at this level so players can develop confidence in their passing and catching skills and shooting the ball to the height of the basket. The U7 and U9 program is specifically designed for players trying basketball for the first time.

Sessions are traditionally mixed (boys and girls together) and players will participate in practice sessions once per week. No official league games are played however, small inter-group games are a part of each practice session. These inter-group games focus on skill development while keeping it fun for the kids. The kids receive a shirt which they get to keep and will participate in a year end EYBA Jamboree in Edmonton.

*If your athlete is born in 2015, please email us at morinvilleyouthbasketball@gmail.com and we can discuss options with you for our U7 program*

U11 (Athletes born 2010-2011)

These teams play once per week (primarily Saturday with occasional Sundays) in the Edmonton Youth Basketball Association (EYBA). Teams practice once per week for 1.5 hours.

U11 games are played four on four, on 8.5-foot high baskets, and with a size 5 basketball. For the first round, teams will play shorter games that ensure they are seeded in a division that their team will compete well in. For the rest of the season they play full games which consist of four nine-minute, stop time quarters with automatic substitutions every 3 minutes.

U13 (Athletes born 2008-2009)

There are two streams for U13 age players:

1.) A/B Program**

2.) Community Program

** U13 players in the Competitive A/B Program play once a week in the EYBA (Tuesday nights for U13 Boys and Wednesday nights for U13Girls). This is subject to interest and coaches availability.

U13 players in the Community Program play once a week in the EYBA (Friday-Sunday, most games are on Saturdays).

If there is enough interest, coaches are available and numbers allow, tryouts for the A/B program will be towards the end of August/early September.

Practice gym locations, practice days and times are TBD and subject to gym and coach availability. U13 games are played five on five (on 10-foot high baskets) and they play four nine-minute quarters.

U15 (Athletes born 2006-2007)

There are two streams for U15 age players:

1.) A/B Program**

2.) Community Program

**U15 players in the Competitive A/B Program play once a week in the EYBA (Tuesday nights for U15 Boys and Wednesday nights for U15 Girls).

U15 players in the Community Program play once a week in the EYBA (Friday-Sunday, most games are on Saturdays). Teams practice a minimum of once per week..

Practice gym locations, practice days and times are TBD and subject to gym and coach availability. If there is enough interest, coaches are available and numbers allow, tryouts for the A/B program will be towards the end of August/early September. The U15 games are played five on five (on 10-foot high baskets) and they play four nine- minute quarters.

U18 (Athletes born 2003-2005)

U18 Boys and Girls play once (sometimes twice) a week (Friday-Sunday, most games are on Saturdays) in the EYBA.

Please Note: There are two separate seasons for the U18 age category. The first season is the Fall League, which runs from September to November. The second season is the Winter League, which runs from January to March. MYBA typically only runs Fall League due to interest.

The ASAA (Alberta School's Athletic Association) states that players participating on any high school basketball team (junior varsity or senior varsity), are not eligible to play in the Winter League: “To be eligible for high school provincial competition in the ASAA sports of basketball, volleyball, football, cheerleading, team handball and rugby, a high school student is not permitted to play on a non-school team in the same sport during the same season.”
