Coach Certifications


Required Certifications

The following is a list of coach and assistant coach certifications required by Morinville Youth Basketball Association (MYBA). All required training and screening must be completed prior to the start of the season.

The cost of the Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders-Alberta Basketball is covered by the MYBA, click HERE to request your unique registration access code.

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) required E-Learning modules are provided free of charge. 


1. Respect in Sport Activity Leader- Alberta Basketball

Click HERE  to register once you have your unique access code. 

The Respect in Sport Activity Leader/Coach program educates youth, leaders, coaches, officials and participants (14-years and up) to recognize, understand and respond to issues of bullying, abuse, harrassment and discrimination (BAHD).

The estimated time to complete this program is 3 hours and the training is valid for 4 years. You may complete this program at your own pace and convenience.

After completing this program, MYBA will be notified of your certification status.

This program is for Coaches and other Activity Leaders. This program is not for Parents. For more information on the Respect in Sport Parent Program, click HERE. The two programs contain different content and must be completed separately.


2. National Coaching Certification Program-The Locker (NCCP #)-EYBA League Coaches 

Register for an account and NCCP #. The Locker is the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) location for you to access, manage and maintain your training and records.

Safesport is required for coaches per EYBA rulebook.


3. Making Headway in Basketball (Concussion Training)-EYBA League Coaches 

This 60-90 minute online training covers: what to do to prevent concussions, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion, and how to ensure athletes return to play safely.

  • Go to E-Learning
  • Choose BASKETBALL from the list
  • Select Making Headway in Basketball E-Learning course from the menu
  • Read the instructions and begin

4. Responsible Coaching Movement (RCM

Complete the E-Learning module Understanding the Rule of Two HERE  

Background Screening

All coaches and assistant coaches must provide a valid Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (CRVSC). The CRVSC is valid for two years and must be uploaded to your Ramp account before the start of the season.

You must apply for the CRVSC in person and the RCMP will contact you once it's ready for in person pickup. The Morinville Detachment is located at 10512 - 101 Avenue and office hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm - Monday through Friday (excluding statutory holidays).  If you have inquiries please call 780-939-1600 and someone will be able to assist you.

The volunteer letter is available HERE so that there is no charge for your CRVSC.
