One of the greatest advantages of 3 on 3 basketball is the simplicity of the game. What used to be a simple half-court game of pick-up has now developed into an officially recognized sport. The International Olympic Committee, in recognition of the growing popularity of the sport, has announced the inclusion of 3 on 3 basketball as an official event in the Olympics!

If you are wondering what the BENEFITS of playing 3 on 3 basketball are, consider this:

  • So much more!
    • On average, players will get 40% more touches on the ball (i.e. shots, handling the ball, passes, rebounds, etc.) when compared to the normal full-court game.
  • Everyone is a point guard!
    •  Since the game requires the ball to be moved quickly, all players need to share in the control of the ball. This requires that players learn how to dribble with their head up and look to move the ball quickly. This is an important skill at all levels!
  • Defense.
    •  3v3 is far more challenging to defend than a traditional 5v5 game. 3v3 will force players to develop their individual and team defensive skills.
  • Offense.
    • The basic principles of offence used in 5 on 5 basketball are essential to the 3 on 3 game, including screens, pass & cut, screening away, drive and pass, etc.
  • Speed and agility!
    • Due to the limitation of time and space, players are required to get the ball in play faster than the 5v5 game which provides for more shots, passes, rebounds, defending opportunities, and more!
  • PLUS it’s loads of FUN!
