Spring Programs

Programs begin April 4th and run til June 10th!
Please read in its entirety for some VERY important information.
We have limited spots available in every division, Our registration numbers are based on confirmed coaches and gym space.

Grade 6-9 3v3 Program:

  • Athletes born 2007-2010, gender specific programming

One of the greatest advantages of 3 on 3 basketball is the simplicity of the game. What used to be a simple half-court game of pick-up has now developed into an officially recognized sport. The International Olympic Committee, in recognition of the growing popularity of the sport, has announced the inclusion of 3 on 3 basketball as an official event in the Olympics!

If you are wondering what the BENEFITS of playing 3 on 3 basketball are, consider this:

  • So much more!
    • On average, players will get 40% more touches on the ball (i.e. shots, handling the ball, passes, rebounds, etc.) when compared to the normal full-court game.
  • Everyone is a point guard!
    •  Since the game requires the ball to be moved quickly, all players need to share in the control of the ball. This requires that players learn how to dribble with their head up and look to move the ball quickly. This is an important skill at all levels!
  • Defense.
    •  3v3 is far more challenging to defend than a traditional 5v5 game. 3v3 will force players to develop their individual and team defensive skills.
  • Offense.
    • The basic principles of offence used in 5 on 5 basketball are essential to the 3 on 3 game, including screens, pass & cut, screening away, drive and pass, etc.
  • Speed and agility!
    • Due to the limitation of time and space, players are required to get the ball in play faster than the 5v5 game which provides for more shots, passes, rebounds, defending opportunities, and more!
  • PLUS it’s loads of FUN!

Junior Sabres Spring Program:

The current gym availability is limited. We are opening registration and have capped each division based on a variety of factors. We encourage registration even if your division is full so we know who wants to play.
Insurance Fee
If you did not play for the Sabretooths in Fall/Winter 2021, OR with an ABA sanctioned team/program, you will be required to pay an additional 17$ insurance fee through the Alberta Basketball Association. This is done through registration via credit card. Those who participated in the Fall/Winter 2020 season will not have to pay this fee again and you should be able to register without adding credit card information.
This is ON TOP of the MYBA registration fee.
Registration Confirmation
Once your registration is complete, you will need to ensure your athlete(s) are paid for to confirm your spot. If payment is not received, the registration is not complete and your athlete will NOT be placed onto a team until full payment is received.
We encourage e-transfers for payment. If you are unable to e-transfer, please email us for other arrangements.
E-transfers can be sent to morinvilleyouthbasketball@gmail.com and no password is required.
No Spectators Allowed
There are NO spectators allowed in the schools at this time. Please understand that this is NOT an MYBA rule, but that of the school district. There is hope that they will allow spectators in the future.
Practice Days
Practice days will be between Monday-Friday on a consistent schedule. The only program that may be inconsistent will be out U11 House League as they may play on different days each week depending on registration numbers. This will be set in advance once registration closes.
Athlete Movement
If you are wanting your athlete to play up or down a division, please email us. This will only be considered under special circumstances (e.g., your athlete has played many years of U9 basketball and would like to move up to U11 for the spring season).
Athlete Practice/Player Requests
We will not be able to accommodate any special requests due to our high registration numbers.
We still need coaches to help make this season a full success! Please email us or mark your interest on your child's registration.
